A Love For The Rain
It’s raining
He’s stopped for the foreseeable
Seeing as there’s no real reason to walk
Raining
Hard loud rain off the branches
His feet merge with the mud of the earth
And although he could die up here at Devil’s Dyke
And wet weasels pillaged his corpse before he’s found
The main sense he feels as a small river of water hits his nape
Is that he has escaped
And left the monster nosing the bins
At the corner of some street with a name
And he promises out loud
That if he ever has a child
The first of many loves he gives it
Will be a love for the rain…
Mate lift your face to the sun
soak up the rain if it comes
it don’t make you safe if you hunch
so rave if you want
the dance of the Deathly One’s done
face to the front
soak up the rain as it runs
the dance of the Death Lovers is done
rave how you want
the strangest race ever run
Freaks to the front
Pick up your body and come
7.9 billion together as one
we woke up
Face to the sun
soak up the rain as it runs
it don’t make you safe if you hunch
so rave if you want
face to the front
soak up the rain as it runs
the dance of the Death Lovers is done
rave how you want
the strangest race ever run
Freaks to the front
Pick up your bodies and come
7.9 billion together as one
we woke up to rain
Freaks to the front
Pick up your bodies and come
7.9 billion together as one
we woke up to reign
Freaks freaks freaks…
lift your face to the sun
Soak up the rain as it comes
It don’t make you safe if you hunch
so rave if you rave if you want
the dance of the Deathly One
the dance of the Deathly Ones is done
we woke up to rain
we woke up to reign
we woke up to rain

Greek Summer
So long doggy so long
so long doggy so long
so long doggy so long
so long doggy so long
I’m from a gamelan of mighty gongs
ah ha
My bells be ringing to a new number
uh hurgh
I am just stepping out the brouhaha
ah haa
I’m a Greek summer
I’m a Greek summer
I’m from a gamelan of mighty gongs
ah ha
so long doggy
My bells be ringing to a new number
uh hurgh
so long doggy
I am just stepping out the brouhaha
ah haa
so long doggy
I’m a Greek summer
I’m a Greek summer
Gna beat that doggy
never bow down
Gna beat that doggy
never bow down
Gna beat that doggy
never bow down
Gna beat that doggy
never bow down
I mince like vision is my real estate
ah ha
I roll up reeking like a deep space rave
oh ho
I tears off miseries like Sea-lotape
oh ho
Real love playing on the radio
I’m from a gamelan of mighty gongs
ah ha
so long doggy
My bells be ringing to a new number
uh hurgh
so long doggy
I am just stepping out the brouhaha
ah haa
so long doggy
I’m a Greek summer
I’m a Greek summer
Real ain’t playing on the radio
Real is playing in the rain

Wild Animus
Meditate in cigarette butts
Meditate in sound of engines
Meditate in spite of winter
meditate like life’s depending
Meditate space among cigarette butts
Cathedral in a small box room
Gospel in a dandelion dying
In a flat belly man with a lost screw
One lost screw, seventeen lost marbles
Meditate in asylum white
Hot day to the violent night
We are walking dynamite
Dum degga degga
Meditate in love and splendour
In the glamour of a God Gift Day
I wear air like feather boa and red leather
In a park where I ostentate
Found not lost in space
Space
Growing around me like halo
Like Zeppelin go moonwards
Not lost, what? Cos a telly say so?
Nah I arrive, then I arrive again
then arrive again
Then I arrive again
Live a life like diving for diamonds
constant
My guide is the light within
Wild animus
Wild animus
Dance with the cannibal apes
White lines in the back of the jeep
we’re still falling
Fiends for the slap of the bass
Line spaced from the lack of the sleep
Until morning
None of the kids I’m with want this
Vacuous enema-Nightmare yr peddling
So we swallow the drugs by the hundreds
You say money is love
where’s the evidence?
Fuck in the dust
the mud paints us
Running amuk the mode monstrous
Each one of us perfect strangers
Strobelight the cave of the unconscious
Tripping on the light what it feels like
Feels like we’re the sons of Caliban
Rilly on the side of real life
We come alive as an upwards avalanche
Yes and I’m a FUCKING BATTYMAN
Munted I’m a man alive
Disgusted and yr tantalized
Come flit to the candlelight
Ah my papillon
Truth of the mind too ugly
Make it move to the two-two drumbeats
Twostep by the miligram
Bagged up for the uptight citizan
One dab of the realness could kil a man
or bring him alive in a devil-eyed dinnerdance
So who’s in now?
Bass up and yr cruising round
The lipstick all round yr rude pink mouth
Eye shadow is a blue tint Wow
you look vivid
One pull ups
Two pull ups
And the drums go dum du dum duddup
I be the thunder god
the young Buddha
Seen what yr under love
I want gooder
I want better for you I brung love in
Work for the sense of peace that comes sudden
Rest for the day to day to day struggling
Look when he shut his eyes
The light struck him
Work
We have done that work
My days we have
done that running
I try not to become that work
My lover
Leave time for the fun and fucking
Meditate meditate my ninja
Meditate and the day comes smoother
and the day comes cleaner, clearer
Day comes draped in a warrior sutra
Wild animus

Sunlight
Why does he walk the river?
Maybe he killed a man
He stops
Looks at his filthy hands
and keeps walking
Kid is an alien listen
He lives in an age of foolery
It isn’t his aim to fit in
Maybe the river’s his way to forget
Maybe the kiddy is walking be
cause he is strange in the cortex
Maybe a thing he’s after
swims in the water there
Dragging its body in weeds and algae
Using a straw for air
He looks. Something moves
He looks at his hands again
A jogger that’s dragging a dog hard
Jogs past and yanks the chain
Her earpods blocking the sounds of life as it dies screaming
She drags her dog off in the flat white evening
The kiddy observes
His eyes filling with dirt and grief
He sees a riot coming
Sees bodies that hurt and bleed
Sees fractions
Splitting to further fractions
A child lie dreaming
A preacher with a wild eye preaching
On the ruins of an airport
In a hot dry hungry
So He walks until the town comes country
And the river runs quicker
But deep clean darker
And he walks beneath trees
a little calmer
Until at last where a warehouse
is swallowed by the weeds
He stops, sits among em
And breaths
I don’t feel like I’m dying when I’m side by side with you
Feel something liven in my intestines for you
So hold me tight and I will risk my life for you
Just gimme one night to forget the danger outside
It isn’t madness
It’s a world war he says
A war the world fed and which my mind has made
The war that rages frantic in asylum greys
When I close my eyeses rises in a tidal wave
That’s made of guns and mischief
The Made of bloody hands >
That bang the glass while I am
Lying / Trying hard to understand
The sense of any given day
World war bristling in my thickened veins
Wind that whips and
Rain that inundates
I feel too mad much
For this real so numb me
I feel too keenly for this
Cunt of a country
That I love
That cut its sons tear ducts before they reach puberty
Where Love’s a dog we beat brutally and drag to die
Prophets strung up
Margins maximised
Refugees drowning in the damp divide
I see and hear it all
It all is swelling in my lower throat
I wrap a scarf around it buttoning my overcoat
And walking
as far as any can from streets and storefronts >
Along the river where the trees are crowding and the mud is wet
And I will walk until decay claims my organs
And exhaustion draws me down and every sun has set
Come with me cos I
I don’t feel like I’m dying when I’m side by side with you
Feel something liven in my intestines for you
So hold me tight and I will risk my life for you
Just gimme one night to forget the danger outside
I don’t feel like I’m dying when I’m side by side with you
The light looks fine and vibrant when we’re thigh to thigh it’s true
So hold me tight and I will risk my life for you
Just gimme one night to forget the danger outside
Call me strange she says
But I am into you
Your eyeses have a hidden moon
That rises when you’re grinning you
Are winning babber babber you’re a fanfare
Whatever weirdness thickens in your insides and drags you down
I am a frightened little infant too
Pikachu
With various disguises that I don as armour / Here
Take my arm you are a queer
Warm stunner
and as pleasing as an onamarta peia
Warm is what I’m after
The cool kids can do a runner now
Let’s snuggle up and hunker down
While the world coming like
Scenes from Bucarau
And grief swings in
Unannounced
At least let’s have
a stark nude wrestle
And then lie fragrantly
Stinking of pheromones
and ancient cheese
Chuckling
From now until the tealight’s guttering
My lover lover lover stay with me
Cos I’m telling you I
I don’t feel like I’m dying when I’m side by side with you
Feel something liven in my intestines for you
So hold me tight and I will risk my life for you
Just gimme one night to forget the danger outside
I don’t feel like I’m dying when I’m side by side with you
The light looks fine and vibrant when we’re thigh to thigh it’s true
So hold me tight and I will risk my life for you
Just gimme one night to forget the danger outside

Abigail
Somebody quick
Tell her story
She's forgotten she was ever born
Dress her in metaphors come
describe the smell of gorse for her
So she can live it like I lived it
The Cornish cliffs
Both our parents there, bourbon biscuits
and a flask of tea
The sea is so cold, your feet've froze
Use a sock to scrub the sand from out between your toes
You feel that?
It's good innit.
Even though it grates a little it is raw existence give it time
and revel in it
Dinner's set for five tonight up at the house
We'll leave the window wide for you
Come sit inside for once
Your father's proud.
I know you've never tasted Mum's food
It's wicked
Every day's a different dish
and love's forever served with it
Call her Whippet
It's her nickname - she likes it
Try it. Say it
Though your voice is paper thin and quiet
We can work it louder
It's our duty to
We'll make a body for you out of string and superglue
Give you clothes and take your photo
Place it there among our own in frames
and every phrase we say
we'll say … eh
We'll give you clothes and take your photo
Place it there among our own in frames
and every phrase we say
we'll say your name
Abigail
You're never going back there
You're never going back
this I promise
I promise
Abigail
And if you're laying in the void there
I'll hold you
You're too young to know a cold truth
Come
let's find a firefly
Dance it down the hedgerows
I'll pick out the soundtrack
Abby have my headphones
Here. Put em in. Press the button
Hear music in the centre of your head / skull all a sudden
Surging
Don't be fearful! That's a small miracle
The world's chock-full of bigger ones
Bigger wonders jostle for your eyes and ears
Pick a bunch
See how we humans alchemise whatever's given us
And turn ideas to solid fact
How boss is that?
With a bit of love
Plane's in the air
Train's on the track
I wonder what you woulda bin
If you'd bin a grown up
Pretty sure you'd have had the living thing sewn up
And sorted
Come let's lay around
Watch the planets roll through
And if you're crying in the void there
I'll hold you

Dear Cousin
Meanwhile, Adnan crouches on the lower deck
Watching the coastguards’ headlights approaching then
Two men in masks leap aboard, attach a rope and when
Adnan tries to catch their eye they are off and gone
Nobody’s telling what is going on / what’s going on
Confusion is the element they’re soaking in
800 of them crammed into a boat that’s meant
for stowing ten to thirteen
Every time a person moves the vessel’s lurching
Every tendon in his body tense, his bones are stiff
from crouching and it seems as if every cell is motion-sick
He’s from the mountains you know, he isn’t meant for seas
Missing his nephew and his friend Haseeb
He shuts his eyes. That’s when the panic hits
The whole ship tips to the side - beads of an abacus
the people are screaming as another tug rocks the boat
Adnan is wide-eyed : there are children locked below
There is little Simran! There is little Omar!
Above the screams he pleads with the coastguards
Please - please - stop pulling stop sirs!
You will drown us, it will not work!
But there is nobody available to hear
Just the death slide and the flailing and the fear
And the headlights of the coastguard boat watching
As the dark swallows us all.
Wake..
Wake up!
Dear cousin
I am sickened from inside
How the d’you ever get so distant from the light?
When did hate become the central piston in your pride?
and when d’you get so gullible to vicious little lies?
Especially the lies of the lizard in his tie
Who says really splendid Richard isn’t it divine
And takes your salary to mop his spillages of wine
And keep you prisoned up inside a rigid little life?
Thought I knew you
You open spirited and kind
Loyal to yr friends down for silliness and light
Hearted banter no truck
with restriction and divides
As long as they don’t tek emself too serious it’s fine
But now look
Look as we swinging to the right
Look as the Sun seeds division in yr mind
Look I don’t care if your opinion isn’t mine
I don’t care what liquid’s in yr pint
Just fucking fucking fucking
Dear cousin
Meet me by the tunnel entrance
I’ll walk you through the gap between the fucking fences
I take you to the shack where Omar dreams
That he is choking on the sea like his friends did
Wake up
Wake up

I See Ghosts
I see ghosts gather for the feast look
I see my great great granddad he’s a priest
Jamaica sugarcane blackening his teeth
He is nodding at my great granddad who’s a thief
And I’m sat here in between
look - with my granny in her fancy jewels
Who’s saying
“Don’t forget you’re grammar schooled
Don’t forget your dad was to the manor born”
And she’s on a croquet lawn very manicured
I turn, and see my great gramps’ feet are manacled
And my nana from my mother’s side is ducking cannonballs
Ducking in to shattered doors
And coming back with corpses
Twisted and staggering and ashen forms
That she’s nursing in a front garden
With her hands bloody
Cursing at the bombardment
And her knees muddy
Cursing at the bombs popping
And the jagged beams
And there is Uncle John
Cursing at the Japanese
Babbling in Ancient Greek in a cold bath
With his dogs and his pipe and his old scars
What’s the matter with him?
It’s all the noise and the clamour
Boys running out the jungle and he has to kill em
And every day he wakes aching from the shrapnel in him
Till he is an asteroid in blackness that
Can’t forgive him
All my ancestors broken up and strange
Some are loving, some are woven up in hate
Some are blood and liquor soaked and some are saints
Some made their money off of slaves
Some are noble as a spade
Some are dirt-rich
Look among em there are foremen there are servants
There are there are
Poor Pawn brokers here there are merchants
Look, there are sheep farmers there are nurses
and all of them are in me
All are in me as a bone
So never think you know me cos you don’t
Said all of them are in me
All are in me as a bone
So never think you know me cos you don’t
I see ghosts

Blessed Love
Oneone
it’s a blessed love…
For those who won’t bend in obedience
The freaky ones blending the mediums
Freaks bringing bee stings to the tedium
This kingdom of ghosts and chameleons
I’ve been flinging out seeds of my bleeding heart
Since pre social media cinema
Since pre CDR
I’m a leaping phoenix
Unsettle the cosmos for the remix…
It’s a blessed love…
Mad love for the beauty of Bach and Escher
I see gods in the architecture
From Castadena to Large Professor
our unfathomable grace
Grace too vast to measure
as the truth gets more bizarre than ever
and the storms do gather for Armageddon
We gather to dance together
It’s a love with a fistful of seeds in it
Beyond statistics and reasoning
The new state of being is Edenic
We rewild and we replenish
and we’re generating the future here
with a ten-gun salute to the weird
Miniature minded dudes move to the rear
and do your homework before speaking
We’ve been hearing you all evening
Perhaps it is time for a next perspective
Direct line to the blessed essence
It’s a blessed love…

Curiouser and Curiouser
We mistake control for success
mistake money for love
that's the old one
Mistake what's clean for what's golden
There's a clean black hole coming
hold on hold on
Mistake normal for what makes sense
Mistake what's lawful for innocent
Mistake legal for good
People for good
Ourselves for cigarettes
Mistake what we can't grasp for what cannot be
Mistake large for Godly
Mistake what's massive for what matters
There are cracks in the colossus
The god fractures
Ozymandias…
We mistake control for success
Mistake money for love that's the old one
Mistake what's clean for what's golden
There's a clean black hole coming hold on hold on
Schemers come in
all shapes and costumes
the role of God is
to warn your guts
The role of
you is
to learn to
hear them
to learn to
stop and see
I get
Curiouser and curiouser and Curiouser
And that’s all I know…
And when you’re done with
your one grand goal
the world will turn and make you small
The role of you is
to ride on this quiet
this quiet
this quiet
I get
Curiouser and curiouser and curiouser
And that’s all I know
All I know…
We mistake control for success
mistake money for love
that's the old one
Mistake what's clean for what's golden
There's a clean black hole coming
hold on hold on
Mistake normal for what makes sense
Mistake what's lawful for innocent
Mistake legal for good
People for good
Ourselves for cigarettes
Mistake what we can't grasp for what cannot be
Mistake large for Godly
Mistake what's massive for what matters
There are cracks in the colossus
The god fractures
Ozymandias…
We mistake control for success
Mistake money for love that's the old one
Mistake what's clean for what's golden
There's a clean black hole coming

Recorded almost entirely in a single day at the legendary Total Refreshment Centre in London, JOY MACHINE brings together some of the most exciting musicians in London’s new jazz explosion. With contributions from Alabaster DePlume and trumpeter Jonathon Enser (Nubiyan Twist), vocals from Dizraeli (Worldwide Music Awards Best Album nominee), drums from Ben Brown (Alfa Mist, Mulatu Astatke), bass from uk jazz scene favourites Daisy George and Joe Downard, synths from Joseph Costi (Yusef Cat Stevens , Bahla) and saxophone from free jazzer Ronan Perrett.
In the tradition of Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew , the band came to the studio in October 23 with only one pre-written track (the uplifting summer anthem Greek Summer) and once that was recorded, spent the rest of the day improvising wild, explosive music laced with Dizraeli’s rap and spoken word lyricism. The result is JOY MACHINE , a record bursting with urgency, intensity and life, and one that cements Dizraeli’s position as an innovative wordsmith, bringing both personal depth (as in Abigail , a homage to the sister who died before he was born) and fierce political commentary (as in Dear Cousin , a goosebumps-inducing narrative that transports the listener aboard the boat Adriana carrying refugees across the Mediterranean, which sank in June 2023 drowning 500 people, and then confronts a very English bigot in the second verse).
The sound is a visionary mixture of hip-hop, post-punk and jazz. For the visual side of JOY MACHINE, Diz has created 3 music videos in collaboration with Sam Perry-Falvey , the director behind Ren ’s recent sensational ascent. JOY MACHINE follows The Kid EP (co-produced with Nubiyan Twist’s Tom Excell and featuring Afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi) in what will be a prolific year of releases for Dizraeli.
Diz is on tour with the band around the UK across April and May, with festival dates including WOMAD and Boardmasters lined up for the summer.
“Incredible.” - Gilles Peterson
“It’s an exciting time for Dizraeli… tune in now” - Clash
